Review: Halo 5

I’ve been waiting for Halo 5: Guardians since E3 2014. I’ve been enjoyed every Halo game since Combat Evolved. I took part in the Halo 5 multiplayer beta. Other than the main problems that a beta can have (random server loss, bugs everywhere, etc.) I found it to be very enjoyable, and it only excited me for what the main story of what Halo 5 might have in store for me. October 27th finally came around and I started playing immediately.

Not very long after I started the story I found myself being emotionally attached to characters I thought for sure I wasn’t going to like (Locke and the Osiris Team in general). Whether I’m Locke or Master Chief I still have fun Spartan charging through enemies in this new addition to the story. The game runs at a smooth 60 fps at 1080p on my Xbox One. The multiplayer has had its own changes with the addition of Warzone. A minimum of 18 players, duking it out to control certain map points and take down NCP bosses. Along with your team you have NCP’s fighting along with you. It’s a huge game map and is bound to take longer than your average game of Slayer. The combat in Halo 5 is the smoothest of any Halo thus far, and gives great satisfaction when assassinating random players.

I haven’t had very many issues at all in the first week of release. The only issue worth mentioning is a connection problem, any time I have tried to play online, the first 5 or 6 games I try and join, I end up being disconnected from the server. After the initial 5 or 6 games, I have no problem and play for hours on end. I also can’t seem to find Forge Mode. I’m not sure if Forge will be coming later, or if 343 Industries just won’t be adding it Halo 5. At the very least I hope to be seeing Forge in the near future.

Overall Halo 5: Guardians is wonderful game. With a fantastic story, and endless hours of multiplayer gameplay, that you and your friends can all enjoy Halo 5 together. In my personal opinion, Halo 5 is my favorite Halo to date. If asked to rate Halo 5: Guardians, I’d give it an easy 9.5 out of 10. Other than the small connection problems, this game is fantastic. To quote a good friend of mine “I guess I’ll be throwing another $60 dollars at whatever masterpiece 343 Industries has in store for us next!”
